Keep From Falling!

I Have Fallen, and I CAN Get Up

Is it COLD, or what?  They say that you can get frostbite within 15 minutes in zero weather.  Not only that, but with all this snow and ice, I am sure glad I have a 4-wheel drive truck with great tires for good traction.  Then, (on top of that) you need good boots, or shoes that provide good traction even for the young ones so they don’t fall.  I have another concern, and that is for my wife.  She has thinning bones that if she should fall, it could be very bad.  With all this in mind, I urge you to be extra careful that we don’t fall.

I hear God’s people concerned about this cold spiritual time that we have entered into.  Their concern (and mine) is that we don’t fail, and we don’t fall spiritually with all this coldness today towards the things of God.  The half brother of Jesus told us about this terrible cold season in the very book we have been studying in Sunday School.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

In the next several verses, Jude warns of the deception that has permeated our land in these last days which cause very slippery and dangerous conditions, spiritually.  He warns that even seasoned brothers and sisters must beware.  I am so glad God that gave us the solution for this very slippery condition in verses 17-21 and also verse 24.

Jude 1:17-21 “But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

And now Jude 1:24 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”

We should know the Word so well, that even the Apostle Paul said:  Galatians 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

If we stray from the Word of God, we will not have good spiritual traction. I was one of many “preacher boys” in our first church where Bonnie and I attended.  Sadly, I watched as one by one they fell.  These were good men of God that had been called to preach, but they got their eye’s off the Word of God, and they began to slip, and out of about 7 men called to the ministry, I was the only one that pastored a church for any length of time.  That fear overtook me, thinking that if these great men couldn’t make it, then, how could I?  I remember praying and telling the Lord, Lord if they can’t make it, then how in the world can I? The Lord smote my heart and told me through His Word that this happens when you get your eyes off of Him and His Word.

See, we don’t have to go down like so many others as we realize this verse.  Psalms 73:23 “Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.”  You see, I go back to that verse in Jude:  Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

This verse says that He will hold us.  He will keep us from going down in defeat.  Remember this folks, that when Jesus was talking with Peter, He told him in Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.  Always remember this.  Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  Another verse that is precious to me is this:  Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.  Or, how about this tremendous declaration by our Wonderful, Marvelous God in Isaiah?  Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

So, fear not child of God, for He will keep your feet sure and steadfast if we put Him first in our lives.  Just be true to the faith that was once delivered to the saints.  Just like we need warm clothes for this cold weather, and good tires for traction to keep us safe and good boots to keep you from falling, we need to allow God to take hold of our hand as we keep our eyes upon Him and His promise.  What was His promise, again?  Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

In the coldness of our world spiritually today, the divisions in our society, we need to trust in the Lord with all of our heart, and not lean on our own understanding.  This Sunday, I know Jesus will be in church, for that was his custom.  Why not come to church on Sundays and Wednesdays?  That is where we meet Jesus.  Much Love!  Pastor Ammon
